Kill them yourself and you might find yourself in a lot of trouble. You don't know what you're doing, so you could unwittingly cause pain and/or distress - go to the vet. He/she may well be willing to spay her as she is, particularly if you're going to have them pts anyway.

However, the CPL tend to rehome kittens relatively easily - more easily than adult cats, at least. Contact your local branch and see what they say.

Those of you who may have benefited from management training may recall the "lateral thinking" session, where students are invited to "brainstorm", as in "List 50 ways to kill a cat".

Dear Leddi, your first post is way off - no lateral thinking there! Suggesting going to someone who is properly qualified, suitably equipped, well experienced and able to offer a sensible alternative is just so passe.

Now now, don't tease the new kid in class We might scare them away and that would be a shame.

Mind you, after my recent viewing habits I can't help thinking about kitten poker. Sorry.

I think Shadiya is probably the person that has been chased off.

Puzzled as to why folks come up with complex solutions in the name of being "humane" None of these rosy ideas are anywhere near humane for the animal dying. All the really do is make things less unpleasant for the person doing them.

Hard truth is if your going to take a life then man up about it and take real responsibility for the act. Put all your own feelings aside as they do not matter.

For something small as a kitten simply crushing the skull and brain as fast as possible will be one of the most suffer free deaths. Either between a size 12 boot and a concrete slab, or make up a good quality priest for striking the base of the skull. Both ways will be brutal possibly messy and traumatic for the person involved, but most importantly kindest to the animal dying.

Gassing, drowning, and all many of other silly notions are what happens when folks become too detached from life and death and pamper to their own feelings rather than reality.

Actually, gassing is used in commercial chicken units for the humane dispatch of chickens.

What's really silly is when people get shot down for asking for information.

I don't know the gas unfortunately, but all the big [enough to be in a supermarket] goat dairies use it afaik.

Blunt force trauma is the DEFRA recommended method for humane dispatch of most young stock, including piglets.

It is also the recommended method for mink. I suggest a priest or club. Alternatively hold the animal firmly by the rear feet and swing its head off the nearest hard surface.

No, not chased off, just an inverter problem - no power = no internet!

I spoke to my vet who is going to come and euthanase ( it's no good, tried it several ways and still can't remember how to spell it any better than that) all but one kitten as soon as possible after the birth, as there is an increased risk of haemorrhaging if you spay during pregnancy. Apparently Oxfordshire is currently heaving with kittens and the CPL are struggling. Fingers crossed I should be able to find a home for one kitten and if the worst comes to the worst, I suppose three cats wouldn't be that bad. Though I am single, headed for fifty, could be a slippery slope to crazy cat lady.....

Crazier, I mean

I think it's probably best if I get the vet in to be honest, I am actually probably far too wussy to gas little kittens....
