I've got basic shopping cart software on my website using the freeware at mals ecommerce. Its about as complicated as I can manage at the moment with my limited understanding of how html works and all that.
However, I want to have a 'midsummer sale' and list lots of one off items with a 'buy it now button' and ideally, once someone has bought an item it will automatically show that the item has sold. I can't do that with my current system.

Does anyone know a reasonably painless and cheap way to do this? I don't mind paying a little bit for the mechanism to do so, as lots of our things are one offs so it will get plenty of use when I update the shopping side of my site, but it needs to be reasonably easy or I'll get confused.

I love Mals Cart and use it on a number of sites but to do what you want requires a database. I succesfully integrated a php database with Mals cart by dabbling but it wasn't easy.

A lot of people use Optioncart to do this with Mals. I have no knowledge of it myself.

However, as the thread below indicates you could create a direct to PayPal buy now button (bypassing Mals cart) where you can specify quantity etc.

Edit: just seen when this was first posted. I'm sure that the OP has cracked this by now!

PayPal buy now button doesn't offer this (last time I looked) so you may need an ecommerce system that uses stock levels but these are more complex to set up.

Alternatively you could forgo the automatic function and update the product listing after purchase.

As I say I think the OP is so old that it doesn't matter. I don't use Paypal buttons myself (and was quoting from Mals support Forum in the link in my previous post) but the Paypal help pages indicate that you can track stock levels,

How embarrassing. I didn't notice the date or kept up with PayPal.
