I have some metal shelves where the paint has flaked off, I assume sand/prime/paint would be the solution, but: 1. What grit sandpaper should I use? 2. Can I just use this after sanding and no paint on top? https://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-zinc-galvanising-spray-paint-silver-400ml/40801

We use the spray-on galvanise at work and it is good stuff, comes from Sparex in Exeter, not sure if they deal with the public, but worth a try; or come back to me and I will find out on Tuesday how much ours costs.

I'm going to pick it up on the way home from screwfix, if I don't get it done tomorrow I'll probably never do it. What grit sandpaper do you reckon?

40 gt then 180 gt then 1200 gt > primer+ top coats or strip with naoh + wallpaper paste> 1200 gt > fancy galvanising stuff or wire brush >smoothrite it depends if you need them to look good or just not go rusty in the shed and if look good what finish you want ( they get easier descending the list) other options exist, what are they for ?

wire brush + smoothrite , let them dry for a couple of weeks to make sure nowt sticks. or wire brush and any oil based paint you might have .dry well as above i have put stuff with rubber feet on paint that had dried as long as it said on the tin and regretted it

Yes. But make sure you finish the job otherwise live got bare metal with fresh moisture on it. Guess what happens next?

Replace the shelves with wood, it won't hurt so much, and could also give rise to the yeast and a pint.
