I have an electric wood plane and I've only every done softwoods with it. Please could someone let me know, do I need a different blade if I'm planing hardwood?

Thank you.

No, just make sure your knives are sharp.
New knives are a good idea, depending on the nature of the timber.

a little at a time, less each time

during that, work out which direction gives the best result for that section of timber

sharp blades help a lot, electric are usually one attack angle fits everything near enough
hand planes and chisels are more subtle, there are lists of ideal edge angles and shapes for assorted timbers

oak is nice to work with, good choice for first hardwood
educational but forgiving while it educates you about grain and tings

Thank you for the answer Mous and DPack. I'll sharpen up the blade and take it a little at a time.

We used some chestnut last year, that was very nice to work with and lovely grain
