I referr to the young rabbit lampers out there .

I mean the the night time rabbit hunters who have the sheer luxury of modern light weight batteries and super duper all singing blue light ,red light purpose made lamps .

When I were a lad ( Eck as like ) it were down to the scrap yard for a fog lamp off a car, a bodged (Bodger ) up on/off switch and a bl**dy heavy 12 volt car battery ! Eehh lad you've never done it till you've been out for a full night with a car battery in a rucksack on your back . Thought that you've been having a heart attack cuz the straps have been too tight , tripped over flat on your face in cow sh*t and then after what seemed like an eternity been hit between the shoulder blades by what seemed like two ton of battery !

No you've never had it so good ! We used to have to get home before it were daylight and eat the Mrs's specially prepared bowl of tripe and onions afore we could go to bed !
No !! you've never add it so good ! Now we just have cornflakes !

Oh yes ! I nearly forgot and take your policemans uniform off and hang it up ready for your next shift.

You mean to tell me is wasn't all oil lamps or rush lights in your day?? Made me laugh, just imagining you falling in a cow pat and be firmly pushed in by the weight of the lamp battery!! It is a bit like those old 'mobile ' phones that came with a battery the size of a small suitcase!! How very mobile they were!!!! Time were real 'ard back then !!

Must have been a bloody long extention lead for the battery charger you would also need!!! Dont go lamping myself unless that golf course rings me then I have no choice.

So that was it ! I tripped over the extension cable . After all these years I finally know what it was !

Must have been bad in the winter, did your mates have a spare battery just in case yours needed a jump start?
