I don't know the Yorkshire coast at all but it was renowned for winter cod and freezing your nuts off.

whitby scarboro ness point or north cheek of the cliffs filey brig is a good one if you have the line to get down in amongst the kelp good cod still there all year round,mackeral wedges lug and lots spark plug sinkers main line to hook, with breakawy line for sinker drop and reel in slowly
