This could be a major tip.

I was searching with google yesterday and getting dross, mainly crap directories designed to trap google searches

Switched to https://www.msn.co.uk/ and the results are miles more relevent.

I've just tried MSN search against the key words for my website

"Dandie Dinmont"

Brings it back at the top of the list - very pleased as Google brings it back 5th in the list

I think MSN has got some form of human intervention involved. Google being purely "maths" is now way too prone to people creating sites simply to sucker google in.

google bombing I think can be a problem but I think they trying to come up ways round it

only ever using one search engine in some respects is never the best strategy. I generally go to google first as 90% of the time the first page has something which I am after on it. If I can't find it there I will try another page

I guess its another sympton of our fast information small concentration span culture that everyone expects one search engine to beable to given them exactly what they are looking for from the first hit

all the indexing systems can be prone to error.

With search engines though, they suffer less from error and more from people actively attempting to subvert them.

downsizer indexes quite well with search engines, and it is at least in part because we engage in the more benign methods of trying to get ranked.
