Its a vegetable soup consisting of all the vegetables that I haven;t used this week that will soon go bad. I hate waste so I decided to throw them all in a pot with some 'erbs 'n' spices 'n' stuff and see how it goes.
So far ingredients include:
onion
leek
garlic
carrot
parsnip
cabbage
mushrooms
coriander
flat-leaf parsley
potatties
and purple brocolli
oh and a good pinch of chilli pwder for good measure

Do you think it will be alright?

Got about another 45 mins to wait for results so chef is currently pickling himself while chatting to you guys.

Should be fine. Is it going to be liquidised, or is it little bits in a stock sort of soup?

Should be better that way I think, probably too many flavours for creaming. Did you use stock or water?

Sounds jolly nice. Have you used any stock or just water? I should think with such a range you might manage perfectly well without. And did you pop everything in in one bash?

And have you got a digital camera? Because if it turns out to be nice you can do an article on "The Downsizer's end of week soup extravaganza"

Used a bit of stock and then topped it up with water. I didn't want to over-egg it with the stock but similarily didn;t trust the veg and herbs to give it a full flavour.
Trouble is at this rate I probably won't even get a bowlful tonight!
Oh and bugs I did pop everything in as I chopped it.

Sounds interesting. Off hand I am not sure whether the mushrooms are going to complement the other flavours though.

I tend to just throw things in and have a bit of a taste. A liitle adjustment and it tends to be fine.

Talking about soup does tend to put me in a soup making mood There is something satisfying in cooking soup akin to making bread the hard way. It is also one that gives you that warm downsizery feeling of old fashioned frugality.

Sounds lovely. Does the cabbage give a slightly bitter taste though? Hopefully, if it does, it will be well balanced out with all the other flavours.

Update on the soup. I did end up blending it as I found a hand blender I had forgot we owned. A very useful piece of machinery! The soup's presentation left a lot to be desired but it tasted swell. I've got about a weeks worth supply of the stuff now though. Probably freeze some.

I have a wonderful old stock pot my mum got me and often make up batches of soup like this with whatever is in the fridge or I have a lot of in the garden.I keep all my margerine tubs etc freeze single portions in them then pop them out into bags for storing to take up less space.I always do a batch of rolls to freeze at the same time so like Jema said it gives such a satisfying downsizer meal in no time at all

I have a weekly veg box, and soup (or roasted vegetables) is very good for using up odd bits. I usually freeze it in plastic boxes or milk cartons, and take it to work for healthy lunches. couldn't manage with the hand blender - I use it at least weekly!

Tuscan bean and pasta soup tonight - outside again if the weather holds!

Mine has ended up using some very streaky bacon, lentils, onion, carrot, potato, cabbage, celery, chives, parsely, with a bit of mustard and pepper, oh and chicken stock.

Quite a cauldren, but it will be the main meal tonight, and in a flask for tomorrows ramble, and probably in the freezer as well.
