When Jocorless stopped by here last weekend, she noticed the number of honeybees in the garden. Suggested I could perhaps domesticate them when they swarmed (is that correct, Jo?).

Didn't know where they nested then, but I do now !

There's one nest in a hole in the railway sleeper I sit on when I have my tea out by the plots. I saw a bee flying with a green thing stuck to its underside. The green thing was a small caterpillar. The bee disappeared into a hole in the wood with the caterpillar.

What kind of bee is this ? Is this normal bee behaviour ? Is it a honeybee ? They are very dark in body-colour.

Any advice ? Apart from not sitting there anymore.

AFAIK all honeybees are entirely veggie...
... oth most wasps are carnivorous...

... and paper wasps (amongst others?) do specifically eat caterpillars...

OK, so that's the wasp contingent. But there are honeybees as well. Is it possible to domesticate them, and lure them into a hive ?

It should be and those last weekend were very definitely honeybee's not wasps

I will ask my bee guru's what the best way to proceed is - The guy next door to me is having a similar problem in his mothers garden so I need to ask anyway as I might get a second hive for free from it
