|
Someone's posted this site on River Cottage, but as it was for a different reason I thought I'd post up my comments here, because I don't think they'll appreciate me hijacking their thread!
https://www.conservation.state.mo.us/nathis/mushrooms/mushroom/index.htm
Has a section on edibles, followed by a section on poisonous, and a bit about telling the difference. It's US based, which I always find awkward with nature things, but the scientific names help. The reason I'm posting is this great paragraph which I thought would strike a chord with some of us mycophobics here:
"Little Brown Mushrooms (LBMs)
Like the LGBs (little gray birds) of the birdwatchers, this is a catchall category. It includes all small to medium-sized, hard-to-identify brownish mushroom with spores of all colors-of which there are many hundreds."
The rest of that paragraph and indeed the page, is worth a browse. |
