in our part of the world(The Fens) its probably the veg growing capital of the country, now when the crops are ripe the mini packers go over it but the cutters are told to leave any thats not quite the right shape, to big to small(in the case of caulis slightly yellow) because of supermarket dictation .once the field is done thay may do a second run a couple of days later but normally do not this leaves many in the field that get ploughed in or the sheep get on, if you see this happening ask the fieldsman(boss) if you can scavenge 99% they will let you, I dont have to ask coming from a farming family but it can be done, I am often seen cutting for our livestock, or down the packing station getting trailers filled up with outgrades , my other half sell �70-�80 wk nof calabrese red/dutch cabbage sprouts, and caulis this way on the gate also.Sometimesw one of the packing stations will load up a low trailer with varios veg, I come home and see it in one of the fields, and when its eaten the trailer disapears again, I still charge them for rabbit clearance tho, what I am saying is dont be shy, its allways a no unless you ask, you are doing them a favour as well |
