How do you paunch and skin a rabbit. How do you bleed, gralloch and skin deer, how do you prepare wildfowl, game and vermin for the pot? How do you catch seatrout at night and bass and mackerel off the rocks - we would all love to know. Hope you can help.

The question for me is where to you learn these skills? Books do cover most things, some of the articles in say the shooting press has some good step-by-step pictures. However, hands on knowledge can be hard to find depending on where you live. I'd love to be able to ask my neighbours but they are shocked by us keeping chickens and growing our own veg

I'm lucky that my mum has prepped many a rabbit (we bred our own for the pot when I was a nipper) and she has prepped many a bird. So I can easily learn from her. Not sure about Deer though.

As I find the area a little daunting I've been buying semi-ready prepared game so I know what to expect and this year it would be great to get my hands on some fresh game to do all the work myself.

So, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Never gone looking for seatrout and I've never had to deal with a deer. If I had to do either, I'd ask for the help of a mate of mine who knows how to do a thing.

I must say, though, I'm surprised that you of all people would feel the need to ask.

I've written an article on mackeral fishing, from both sea and shore. You'll just have to hold on until it's published.

I'm going to add some detailed pics but as I don't want to use shop bought mackeral It wont be until they hit my area, early june hopefully. Last year I could see the sandeel and mackeral shoals almost boiling around my boat but it was an exceptional day.

If anyone is seriously interested in an article on rabbit paunching them I'll do one on that as well, with pictures of course.

I would appreciate that. I'm happy skinning and preparing rabbits, but they have always been paunched before they got to me. I think I know what to do, but pictures would help.

With a bit of luck I would find the article useful by the end of the year. Can anyone do one on birds? I suppose pigeons would be best until the new seasons start. Yes I know people often just skin 'em and remove the breasts but it would be good to practice on a woodie rather than something more special.

I can do one on pigeons as well, sean you do rabbits and I do pigeons?
