aaah I do remember them having quite flat heads - I'm going to have to go on a worm hunt after work now! I'll take my camera.....

The heads are kind of flat and arrow shaped. Nasty, nasty little blighters if you're an earthworm.

That's a good site Gavin, is it yours? We should have it in the weblinks.

No, Bugs - not my site ----- but it is a goody

And yes it should be added to the links - I've got a whole lot to add (hmm, and the possibility of a day off tomorrow? Depends on the weather - nice day, and I'm off to the plot instead.)

All best - Gavin

Here's a photo I've just taken of a couple of our resident slow worms. The one on the left is about 10 inches long.

They are very useful in the garden and totally harmless.

Damn. I wasn't even close

I spent a happy afternoon digging into solid clay in Chilwell recently.

Shame the soil on the plot is so clayish. A pal of mine had one down in Beeston Rylands, had fantastic soil, as you'd expect on a flood plain.

I'm trying to get the lass in question to take on the garden herself. She's had her lessons now; next time I stand there and crack the whip
