Still a novic at sea fishing. I've got some basic kit-rod, reel, line, leader and terminal tackle (I think it's a paternoster set up but not sure), rod rest but both myself and fishing chum are fairly new to beach casting and feel quite lost when we get out there. My main problem is bite detection. Having been used to fishing still waters and slow moving rivers, I find it very difficult to spot bites by watching a rod tip which seems to be constantly moving anyway. I also think I'm hitting them either too quickly or too late. Are there any basic tips anyone has to help. While on the subject, I'd also like to know the best way to hook rag worm. I tend to over use the elastic stuff and it becomes an unappetising lump on my hook. Or does bait presentation not matter in sea angling. Hope someone can help. Maybe another article idea?

Good idea, I've found both the articles so far very interesting.

Leebu, Is it just beach fishing or would rock fishing be of interest as well?

Personally, I don't get the chance to do much rock fishing- the only rocks around us are sea defences and are more bolders than cliffs... but I think in general both would be useful, as long as they covered the basics. One of the problems I find is that the average magazine is aimed at someone who is familiar with fishing and want to improve, and books can be expensive and off the subject e.g. concentrating on boat angling.

I wonder if it is possible to write an article aimed at the absolute beginner (ie "this end you hold, this end goes in the sea...") I know I couldn't and I did start off trying.
Maybe one way forward is to do a guided fishing article i.e. someone who knows what they are talking about takes a total novice for a session fishing and the novice writes about the experience? That way jargon is kept at a minimum and maybe it will encourage a few novices to give it a try... I'd find it interesting to read anyway.

dont use elastic to put your rag worm on,get your worm and gently squeeze its head until nippers are parted and then thread the worm on to your hook through the hole betwee the nippers, the mouth if you like to call it ,thread it allthe way up your hook util the hook comes out of the hole at the other end,you mite have to let the worm goup on to your line to get all the worm o to your hook, you will find this is the wy to use rag worm ,and also lug, elastic is good to keep succh baits as mussel and peeler crab on yor hook....tight lines
