Well, I went on my pig keeping course at the above place yesterday! I had thought that they'd not be able to cover enough in one day, but wow! I learned a lot of new and good stuff. I'd recommend the course to anyone thinking of having pigs, or even to anyone interested in the animals. We covered all sorts of stuff, geared to small-scale keeping of rare breed animals: housing, feeding, breeding, health, costing, selling... Lots of hands on stuff too, I gave a cracking little German Micro pig cross her iron squirt! Fantastic pigs, clearly all in very good health, in good conditions: Tony York really seems to know his stuff.

As a result, I'm bringing forward the date when I aquire pigs, and raised the game from 2 to 3, and also decided to base them in our woodland rather than the field I'd originally selected for them. Can't wait now!

Did the course a few years back when they were near Welshpool, agree, very good. I sold my last couple of KK's to Tony. Wombat

Yep: they'll be the nameless pigs of Doanog! Tamworths: hard work, but worth it. Pork, bacon, brawn, faggots, sausages, ham... have I forgotten anything? Oh yes, excercise from trying to catch up with the pigs! That'll work off all the calories from the pork, bacon, brawn etc etc etc.

Pork from your own pigs doesn't have any calories - I'm sure it says that in one of my books

I think that's probably true for most things you produce yourself - if you weigh up the calories you used producing them, and the calories in them, I doubt there's much in it!

Definitely an intake/output balance between production & comsumption. The old chap says they're MY pigs, he's just doing the construction, but it won't stop him eating them. Or the eggs from MY ducks. Or cheese from MY goat. Or ice cream from MY freezer. (?)
