Well I don't let it go on too long, this cannot be that hard a bug to fix, and I hate the way it works anyway.
You made the point about all the crap in there like the email address, and at the time it seemed stupid to customise a developing component and hence I did not change anything.

But if development is going no where, maybe the time has come to hack it all?

Will probably wait until me hot water is fixed, and I can put in a clear day on the job.

Well if you do decide to do anything with it a handy feature would be to allow items to belong to more than one category as here will be crossover particularly between "Grow Your Own" and "Wild Food"

I had a look at it, and that feature would be pretty hard. I think for a first round, debugging and getting rid of the stuff we do not need is all that will be practical.

I think it might be working now.

//techno babble on

One of the changes in php over the years has been added hack protection by making it more complex to access POST variables.
If you forget this code and are running an earlier version of php, or one with this new protection disabled, then the glossary will probably work fine, we are not.

when you update an entry one of the variables "id" is not accessed correctly, and hence falls into the bit bucket, this makes the code think that we are always adding a new entry, causing problems when we are not.

Good I will removed the extra alerts.

This problem does show an imature component it is pretty basic really. A one line fix that should not have been needed.

Do you want to let the developer know what the problem was? His name is Sascha Claren [email protected]

I thought mamboaddons was general and was kapput, and that this was a product developed by someone simply hosting the component there?

all he needs to be told is that "id" is missing from the variables section of glossary.php.

I have been thinking, the glossary component is pretty simple, but it does contain all the extra BS we do not need.

I know I have held of changing it on the sensible grounds that hacking developing components, cuts you off from bug fixes and enhancements, but... what more could we possible want from a glossary component anyway?

If you can think of things, then maybe I should continue to hold off, otherwise remind me what fields we want blown away? and I will do it.
