I've promised to buy my nephews (eight and thirteen) some bee clothing so they can help with the bees this year.

They have thick boiler suits and wellies, so I figure I only need buy them a suitable bee vest and gloves. Does this sound reasonable ?

Can any one recommend a good supplier for bee vests that does mail order ?

Cheers.

I'm going to get my little one ( 8 ) an all in one astronaut type suit. I won't bother with gloves though - he can wear latex ones as I do.

I'd be worried about gaps with a boiler suit and veil I think.

Where does your local association get their supplies from?

These are the best value I've found.
I know you can buy cheaper online in Europe but I can vouch for the quality from this firm.

Hi!
Just for comparison......we use 'BBWear' kit, cheap and fully functional! We've always bought from them, and never been let down.

The guy who is teaching me about keeping bees said not to waste my time buying bee suits from anywhere other than BBwear.

As a member of the Cornwall beekeepers Association, we can hire kids suits for a tenner a year..........
makes sense since they grow and may not want to continue with it after a season..........

Thanks for all the advice.

I've emailed a few of the main suppliers including bbwear and hopefully we can find the right suits soon.

Im afraid that as I have already hired a suit for my youngster and other people have done the same (obviously) there is a waiting list.

But for those of you who like the idea, try joining your local bee group. With a cheap annual membership you have a load of helpful people willing to mentor you, insurance for your bees and hive and the rental suit deal (well Cornwall Beekeeping association do this).
Having had a mentor for 2 years was a brilliant thing, and if i was starting up again, its the way I would do it, without hesitation.
