if you have a chicken or duck die etc dont waste it, suspend it above a bucket by some twine in the bucket put a little sawdust, then leave for a couple of days, then for the next 3 days every time you go past it shake the twine and even more maggots will fall into it, works brilliantly

How does this fit in with the rules on disposal of fallen stock?

Can you still dispatch it to the usual places, do you have your own (licensed?) incinerator, or is this an old-fashioned method that you can't do any longer?

I know you can't feed worms to chickens if the worms have been fed chicken manure - not sure the same rules would apply, but I'd be cautious.

i would not feed maggots back to the chickens or you my create a cycle of disease.

Best thing is to clean maggots by putting them in a ventilated box with first sawdust and then a bit of cornblower

then go fishing - you can keep them in the fridge for a bit - and then when they turn to casters - they make good bait too ..

get rid of them before they become flies though

oh and i prefer an enclosed method rather than hanging the chicken - so the maggots don't escape - and you don't end up with a plague of flies
