Ingredients

  • Some kind of cabbage, finely chopped

  • Couple of onions, finely chopped

  • Rice, 75g per person

  • Bit of bacon, chopped

  • Mince (real or soya) about 50g per person

  • Green beans - a handful, chopped

  • Chicken noodle soup packet, or fine noodles and chicken stock/a chicken stock cube. Or veggie, I suppose.

  • Curry powder to taste

Recipe

  1. Fry onions and the mince and the curry powder

  2. Add the uncooked rice and the bacon and fry for a bit

  3. Add some water, and the chicken stock/cube/soup, cover and let the rice cook a bit

  4. Add the veg and the noodles and continue to cook - you may need to add more water

  5. It's done once the rice is done - it should be nice and gloopy

Comments

We miss out ingredients depending on what we have in the house.

From The Great British Food Revival cookbook.

Serves 6

oil for frying
2 onions diced
salt and pepper
4 cloves garlic sliced
3 chillies
2 tsp each ground cummin & corriander
1 tsp tumeric
 tsp cayenne pepper
600g spuds cut into chunks
1 cabbage, shredded
100ml water
1 tin toms
1 tin chickpeas (actually dried ones soaked over night are nicer)
fresh corriander and ground cummin to finish

Gently fry the onion, garlic and chillies.

Add the spices and seasoning. Mix around a bit

Add everything else and cook for about hour.

(Having not actually made this, but having eaten it and done the washing up, I think he did it in the pressure cooker actually - it is very good whatever!)

That sounds lovely, and we happen to have all the ingredients in the house.

I thought you were still Off Chickpeas as a family, though?
