Anyone got any experience of freezing whole woodpigeon? When I have a few I normally de breast or freeze a few 'oven ready' birds.

I'm going to be doing some decoying for a farmer over the next few days an expect to get quite a large bag.

Ideally I would like to bung them in my chest freezer, feathers and all until required.

Any problems with that? parasites in the feathers is the only one I can think of.

I've had wild duck and pheasant frozen "as is" with no perceptible deterioration in flavour. Plucking was harder, as you would expect, and gutting is quite painful if the bird hasn't defrosted thoroughly, otherwise no problems at all.

Someone on here once recommended that you wrap the birds in plastic bags first so you don't get the freezer and the rest of the food all mucky but that's about as far as it went. Wish I could remember the name of the thread!
