yes, ..istmas...

for reasons best known to myself I have been thinking about this...well actually the reason is that I am extremely slow and incompetent so if I'm to do what I want to do which is to make either a Christmas stocking or an Advent calender for our godson and nephew (bargain baby, two relationships rolled in to one! - it will be his first Christmas), I would need to start soon.

I found a design today for a pretty advent calender in cross stitch with pockets for presents. I thought of adapting this to another design I saw before, of little felt stockings (which I think would be easier to sew together!) that can be pegged on to a line, either with numbers on or "merry Christmas" or something like that. I know Home on the Hill has done a nice advent calendar and wondered if anyone else has other ideas.

Otherwise I might want ideas (and designs!) for very small simple Christmas motifs to cross stich and attach (the design I found was far too complex for me to manage any time before I'm 40)...so far came up with star, bauble, baby?, holly leaf, santa hat.

And finally I think a simple knitted stocking, with a small plain decoration, will find its way in to the Bugs 2005 Collection...if any of you kind people can suggest a *simple* pattern...

apologies for bringing up the C word...I'm sure I have been beaten to it by the preserving and winemaking lot though!

Have you considered felted stockings? Lots of fun to make, very simple too, and can be nicely embellished

Regularly, but I don't think this is the forum to discuss such things.

Basically, its the same method I use on my pointy hats, just, well, stocking shaped. Would a small and bijou article-ette be appropriate perhaps (we could save it till nearer thingymas so as not to upset the late summer sensibilities)

Maybe I should just do an article on generally useful felted bags, then a small addition to extend it into Thingymas variations nearer to the time?
