I've just read an idea of how not to waste the sloes after they've been used for sloe gin. I know many people may eat them or do other things but this sounds interesting.

Simply add still cider to the sloes and after 8 weeks you get slider! I have no idea what it would taste like.

I read about this in an interview with www.bramleyandgage.co.uk so I may as well give them a plug.

Added in the food & drink shopping section. Feel free to edit.

Has anyone tried them, they a based down in Devon so I would have thought our West Country members may have seen them?

You could do the same sort of thing I bet. Do the used damsons still have much taste? If so they may make an interesting jam, maybe not for daytime use

D'oh!

Just bottled my first batch of sloe gin of the year, and hoyked the sloes into the compost. I've tried all manner of things with the sloes in the past and haven't liked any of them, but slider sounds great!

Damsons and plums used for similar things are WAY more useful. Keep them in a jar with a little spirit of some sort, and keep the jar very tightly sealed. Use them in ice cream, sweet desserts, clafoutis, etc. Very tasty.

We have made "slider" each year with the sloes. In fact that reminds me that I have a load in the freezer from last year.

One word of warning though: Should be drunk in moderation.....it's rocket fuel!
