Not realy a tip, but this may be useful. Some people have had trouble draining an old heating system due to no drain cocks or ones that are stuck fast. I've just seen a new product that could be used and minimise the mess. A self-cutting drain cock, about ï¿½3 for a 15mm one.

Do they do 8mm? where from?

I have now got hold of a drain valve for mine, but have not fitted it.

It's in the spring BES catalogue supplement, www.bes.co.uk part 17036. No sign of 8 or 10 mm; only 15mm. If you don't mind replacing some pipework a temp self cutting tap may be useful but again I've not seen anything for 8mm.

Unfortunatley 8mm tube is just too small for the self cutting devises to be used on You could try freezing the pipe work either side of where you want to put the drain off cock BES product no 6875

dont forget if you drain down , to add inibitor (sp?) to prevent sludge..

Be careful of these self cutting devices If they're not kept straight while cutting it could cause flooding ... and a lot more work having to be done in a hurry
