Boy do downsizers like to chat, more than 250,000 posts in chat in fact

All well and good, but the poor old database is now up to close to 750,000 posts and that does slow the forum down some

We are thinking of purging all topics in chat more than two years old to try and get things back in trim.

So if you need anything from way back then....

Is there a reason why the tail-end of the chat section is full of ancient polls? I'm assuming they can't be deleted or archived so easily.

It may be, but the pruning policy was discontinued anyway, I rewrote the code to avoid a lot of the issues with too many posts.

Is there a way to archive them rather than delete them?

Not easily, and as I say it looks like we don't have to face that issue. The forums is now miles faster than it was, the new approach should work for years before size becomes an issue again.
