Not sure if this is the right place - but it is foraging, or rather Urban Foraging. Next door's hedge (around 5ft tall) is full of them. I had a nibble today - they were OK. Possibly they need to ripen a little more. They were only just squish-able between thumb and forefinger. Any fans here? If so, how do you tell when they are ripe and what do you do with them?

I did not know they could be eaten but other half now very excited about fuchsia wine

Found this. Looks like picking a ripe one is an art. https://scottishforestgarden.wordpress.com/2012/11/02/eating-the-shrubbery/ There was a definite aftertaste and I would agree that peppery comes close. They are although I've yet to find one I'd happily eat more than one or two fruits.

The RHS link suggests jam but the plants you've found may not have the best fruit.

I'm going to keep a look out for them until I find one I like. Apparently, Mark Diacono makes fruit leathers with his.

rather than jam unless cooking changes the taste ,fusia gin might work. im not a fan of raw ones but they are fun through a peashooter organic paintball
