We have been in this house for about 8 years now and most of the work we have done on the house has been rectifying the most appalling diy electrics, roofing and plumbing. The kitchen is the only room that we haven't touched.

Yesterday OH noticed the sink was leaking and to cut a long story short we have unearthed the most appalling botched plumbing you have ever seen. Think sticky tape and bricks holding up pipes and you are about half of the way there.

the gas meter has also had a kitchen unit put in front of it - we have had to cut a hole in the side of the unit to read it - we are having a new kitchen in the new year and think we would like to have it moved. Anyone any idea how much this would cost? It could be moved to the other side of the wall it is currently on as that is the garage wall

I had our gas meter moved from inside the house to outside. Transco came and gave me a free quote. It depends on how much pipework is required and how much digging is needed. Mine cost about �400 but it involved digging a couple of deep holes and the use of a mole. Worth giving them a call to get the quote and take it from there.

Seems a fair price in that case. It probably takes ages to get a mole up to Corgi registration standards.

Sean: you read my mind! Reminds me of the factory I often used to pass as a kid, where Mole grips were made. Had a big slogan outside: "Every time a Mole leaves us, it's a wrench!"

I'm sure it would do a better job than some plumbers.

The two Transco people did seem to know what they we doing though, which was good. It also confirmed to me that everyone who works with gas seems to smoke, preferably when there's gas escaping. It was good fun watching them move my meter as they had to cut into the gas pipe to move it and there's no way to stop the gas escaping while they cut the pipe.
