when I took over our old allotment there was one area where the top soil was only about 3" deep and then it was a clay and gravel pan. I deemed it not worth the effort to plant anything straight away ... |

I've been growing veg now for about 12 years and I still never fail to get a thrill whenever a seed I've sown sprouts and starts to grow. It really is a fine and noble thing to be a grower. |

for things like runners and climbing beans I like to plant in pots as well as in situ as a backup, for the sake of a bit of compost it's a cheap insurance. |

I love them too, I read somewhere that they are a member of the pea family and not a real bean at all, no idea if it is true or not.
both are members of the leguminosae family. |

love em; boiled then fried in butter, in a veg curry, au natural or whatever they're fantastic. They're a staple food going right back to the dawn of civilisation. |

I had one of them dalek type bins on the allotment, never really rated it. The old pallet route is much better and better looking IMO, them plastic bins look ugly to me. |
