Q.ilex is a great host tree for the winter truffle in drier climes. We planted a handful on some of our plantations as an experiment, along with beech, birch, hazel, english oak.

my old stihl 'picked up' (a sad day).
Husk has been great, but I'm going back to stihl - i like them all but am tempted by a pto saw for smaller diameter stuff once extracted |

Depends on the job.
Husq are typically a lot quicker and great for soft wood or small diameter stuff
Stihl are typically better for those tough, knotted logs or bigger diameter stuff (its all about ... |

just to add, Tim Tynes book is brilliant. I got this book ages ago and hadn't realised he was on downsizer until relatively recently. His book really helped us.

i think it must be different up north, we've had kilos and kilos of ceps and the chanterelles are as reliable as ever. I think the hot July really helped our ceps, looks like its only been good up her ... |
