rather splendid

this could have gone in a few themes, the practical one seemed a good place to put it

it did require a community of networking to make it happen

tis rather nice they made an outdoor one, although old mr practical might consider the nature of Devon weather while planning a picnic for a lot of folk most of whom (and their food) might melt, dissolve or set solid

something similar, would be difficult by committee, might be hard to sensibly site etc
this has avoided that and done a nice job

Nice idea. Some of the heartwood of fallen oaks in our wood has gone to make shingles so lives on in the buildings they are 'tiled' with. Even the wood that goes for firewood and charcoal does give joy in its own way, even though it is rather ephemeral.

There is a beautiful long table in Wilderhope Manor (NT and YHA) in Shropshire, in the main hall...I must have some photos from when my father was warden there.
No mention of it in any reviews unfortunately
