Hello all,
I�m giving a workshop on wild plants with a herbalist friend, to be held at Milton Country Park on Sunday 17 April 10am to 4pm. I will be covering food and Ashley will be doing some home made toiletries such as shampoo and hand cream. The workshop will cover plant identification, a mini forage in the park grounds, health and safety aspects of foraging and some recipe demonstrations for food and toiletries in the afternoon. We will also have a bring-and-share lunch and I will be cooking up some of my favourite wild food recipes beforehand. Cost is �25 per person, booking via Milton Country Park. oops, sorry I was wondering why I couldn't log in - turns out I hadn't registered noted about the email - but think it might be too late to delete. oh well, my experience here as a guest has been nice friendly people, no waste of space flamers, nutters etc. will have to grovel to Malcolm if I'm wrong...

Welcome Jacky. The workshop looks really good, a lot going on and I think the stress on safety sounds reassuring. I wish I could make it but Cambridge is a bit of a trek.
Do a search on the forum for user asoverall - he was recently looking for more people and places to work with in his mushrooming group "Fungi to Be With" and it might be well worth your while getting in touch to see if you could work together.
Oh, and Wildfood Junkie, do you have a handle on what kind of things you're likely to be showing people on a forage in Milton at this kind of year? What are you expecitng to find?

the workshop forage will be focussed on the really common stuff that grows in profusion on the park- nettles ground elder cleaver cow parley/cow parsnip dandelions plantains thistles etc, I use the forage as a way to teach about plant id including showing the poinsonous spp that might cause confusion... the cooking facilities are very basic, so the recipe demos will probably be soup or something one pot-ish - I can't recall whether I have an oven or an electric ring to work with. Overall the course is aimed at people with only basic or limited knowledge of wild food; and due to the almost total absence of edible fungi on the site, won't include mushrooms unless I find some before hand and bring them in. I've done a couple of wild food courses before, one at Impington Village college ( a 10 week intro) and a wild food day at Wicken Fen last year. This is a new project for me work wise and the first spring one I've done. ( tho I've been seriously foraging for a couple of years and have a long interest in plants that goes back around 10 years.) Ultimately what I cover in the way of plants really depends what I find there on the reccy the week before!
It's something I'm very keen to develop and would welcome the opprtunity to take it further afield. If anyone would like me to do a course more locally to them, pm or email me and I'll see what I can arrange. ( bear with me while I set up my email for the group)

Jacky, that sounds like a lot of fun. I guess I'm unlikely to learn much (I'm no genius at this, but I'm not a beginner), but I'll sign up anyway.

And as it looks like you're making a go of this, do you want to do an article on what you're up to? You're welcome to submit an article here on that, I'm sure that our members would be interested to read about it. It might also be good publicity for you.
