Has anyone got one of these? They seem to be one of the most highly rated for energy efficiency and I was thinking of getting a small chest freezer. Are they any good?

Not a norfrost,Nettie, but a standard fridge/freezer Proline PC226a, costs me �23 inc VAT to run p.a, very pleased with that.Think it's 2AA.Together with SAVA plug �20 (which I have yet to research) should cut the costs down. In place of SAVA plug perhaps a stndard timer (3 for �10) would do. Guessing now 1hr on 1hr off.Latest thinking apparently is compressor to the side(or on top somehow) so as not to heat up the freezer.

Let us know how you get on with it as I'm thinking of getting a small chest freezer, especially if we track down somewhere where I can get a whole or half a deer.

Ken, I'd be interested to learn how you costed that.

My undersanding is that chest freezers "spill less cold" when opened, and therefore cost less to run than an upright of equivalent size, *opened* an equivalent amount.

However, for long-term storage, opening would come into question much less often than for daily use... hmmmmm.
However, for storing large things, a chest is the obvious answer.

Left only the fridge/freezer on at night, read the meter before and after, then extrapolated. Initially the cost read as �40 pa (excluding depreciation of the capital) but found the microwave was on standby.....use u-switch regularly, still with Powergen Age Concern Old Tariff. There is a good site called Power Standby too.

There's a bit in the current Which? on Freezers, a small Norfrost C2BES should only cost �11 per year and the larger one �16. They seem cheap but the small one may suffer if you have a power cut, to be expected I would have thought with a small freezer. If you ever get a power cut just cover it with blankets.
