Hello, some of you may remember I was asking about starting a veggie patch way back in November? I appologise for not sticking around, to be honest I had almost forgotten about this place and I hope you will forgive me! Now I am back to show you some pictures of my progress - I did promise after all!

Remember this??

Well now it looks like this.. I've been very busy digging and getting all of the nettle roots out and have fixed the fence (to the best of my ability!) and am slowly making progress. This is the first time I've ever done gardening of any kind and I'm quite pleased with myself so far! Garlic, onion sets, spuds are all in and I've put in 10 strawberry plants for my little girls. Things have come to a stand still for now though due to a lack of funds.. I want to section off the top corner under the tree for a few chickens for my eldest daughter and also what to put some sort of fencing and edging around the veggie patch. The edging to keep the earth in and the fence to keep the children off it! Nothing special, just a few posts with chicken wire going round is what I'm after but it will have to wait for now. At least I'm finally getting it done though, we've lived here for 3 years!!!!

Fennel herb - will grow up to 5-6' high each year, feathery foliage that tastes sligtly aniseedy : use in salads, with white fish, pork, poultry.
Pick the leaves and chop up; use cold or in cooked dishes [add towards the end of cooking]
Produces a head of yellow flowers which go to green seed pods which can be collected and dried for use in curries / eastern european / oriental cookery

Great plant.
Likes a sunny spot with deep soil it can get its long tap root down into. Will self-seed, whichis good as even though it is perennial, it lives only a few years, so the self seedlings carry on.
