Norway, NZ, Canada - somewhere with cold winters, warmish summers, and some room to stretch my eyes out a bit

Well, language wouldn't be a problem here, as most people speak english, and the winters isn't that cold - at least not on the coast. And farmland is reasonably cheap. And there are okay with jobs.

Men jeg har lyst til aa laerer Norsk! (egads I'm sure I slaughtered that sentence)

Just saw this......Well done, you!

The only thing you need is a keyboard with , and in it and you'll be writing a play by Ibsen in no time :lol

Have you ever visited Norway? With your knowledge of the language you would become very popular!

Back to the discussion as such: we have quite a few Brits living and working here. Many are married to local people. It seems they are doing OK, but there are complaints about the climate and the price of beer.

Quite a few Norwegians leave for warmer shores once they retire. Then work is not an option. We are infamously not learning Spanish, Italian and French, however. Shame really, but when people are past 60 years they seem to be happy with what they know. Learning a different language at that age is difficult.

I have lived for some time in South Africa and I cannot ever see myself living there again. I'll brave the rain, wind and dark winters here with ease, just to be feeling safe in my own home. One day of sunshine here makes up for a lot of dismal winter days

Depends on your budget. It's the best of the really cheap beers (30 rack for $10 when on sale) and quite popular among hipsters

what's a hipster? budget...hmmm, unless i get real good at PBR real quick...not a lot

hey, new england, isn't there quite an ox-scene there?

Quote:

Hipster - One who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed cool by the cool. (Note: it is no longer recommended that one use the term "cool"; a Hipster would instead say "deck.") The Hipster walks among the masses in daily life but is not a part of them and shuns or reduces to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream. A Hipster ideally possesses no more than 2% body fat.

(from https://www.hipsterhandbook.com/)

There are a few animal traction farms around, and some folks that log solely with oxen. I don't know much about it, but you can check out: www.draftanimalpower.com

(wait a minute! I've just poked around their oxen section, and it would appear that you're already a member! well they seem to be based out of Vermont, like me )

Wouldn't it be fun to be properly challenged and move somewhere where two languages are spoken - e.g. N/NW Spain - Basque and Spanish, or NE Spain - Catalan and Spanish. With a view to becoming fluent in both of course

I moved to New Zealand in 1989 with the expectation of starting a business with some friends. Sadly it all went pear-shaped and I had to come back to the UK but I absolutely loved NZ - I was there for five months - and would have stayed on if I could. The countryside is fabulous, the scenery is amazing, the beaches are empty, the houses are cheap and the people are bearable. (I'm not a people person!). Don't know what it's like now, of course, but has to be worth consideration. Sadly I'm "too old" for NZ now - unless I win the lottery

Means that the adverticement has been closed. House probably sold.

The one that is left is in Lofoten. Wonderful place in summer and as out-of-this-world as anything you ever saw. Far north.

Anybody interested? Good luck! hope you like fish...

New Zealand still has the vote!

The Jan 1 thoroughbred birthdate and fabulous scenery.

Not to mention manageable demographics
