im on rat patrol again
the fenns are settling with almond butter as long term bait
and i now have a bsa pcp ultra multishot with red laser and tac light
i hope it is faster than the aa tx200sr which is fine for sniping them on bait but not fast enough for the scuttlers
im feeling smug til the beasties outwit me
any tips ?

resistance is fertile

Terriers.

Prefer poisoned bait in locked boxes, myself. Hell of a lot of time and effort to bag rats. Though I did once make the mistake of offering a teenager 50p a go to shoot rats with an air rifle and night sight, thinking he might get half a dozen.

Little beggar shot about 200 of them in a night.

Sawn down .410 ...... legal?
Which bit was sawn down?

The multi shot ultra sounds a good bet to me!

I've never used bait on Fenns dp. I've always used them in artificial tunnels and then let the rats run through theml. I'm like you though, I hate the things.
I've recently started using rat stick to catch mice and have had good results. I use a roof slate, put a blob of pea nut butter in the middle and then surround it with rat stick so that the critters have to tread on it to get at the bait. I've noticed that some of the pest control companies have started to sell something similar for rats.

The only problem that I can see with both Fenns and the rat stick is that the surviving vermin can become cute as to whats going on with these methods.

The multi shot will be fine, and if you have a silencer fitted they wont know what hit them..

good luck with Mr Ratty

silencer on front
i know poison works but my chooks are very carnivorous and so are the pigs given the chance so im wary of toxins that might get picked up via sickly rats
a 410 will make a mess of the farmyard ,wake the beasts and locals and ruin what is left of my ears ,
i might be up for gassing the burrows (found and exposed quite a few )if it works and is reasonable kindly dispatch i thought the generator exhaust might fit the bill ,if that is legal
and a not too unpleasant death for ratty
they have to go but not with cruelty
there are plenty of cats about but a big brownie is too much for most pusses and the jrt next door seems to have no interest

No. If you want to gas them you have to use Talunex, a substance so nasty and scary that I've decided I'd rather lose work than use it again. I'm a fairly robust person generally, but that stuff scares the trousers off me.

if that is the phosgene stuff it is off the menu
unless you are wearing a full suit and BA it is not to be played with and a horrid way to go for the victims
ok gassing is out
traps n a laser/taclight it is for a bit and see how it goes
the digger can disrupt one colony when we put the electric mains in
