you need an experienced carpenter. we had one, and boy do we miss him.
The main question here is are you just doing this for your own personal use, or to pass on to someone else / sell? the reason i ask is because once you get away from personal hobby and into the realms of commercial business, you come under the scrutiny of the law.
most new furniture is made out of MDF, chipboard, plastic and glue, and cant be used to make anything other than kibble.
so you are looking for proper furniture made from real wood. most of that will be very old and have several coats of varnish on it. you'll need good face masks and a well ventilated workshop to remove that. you will also have to learn to tell different woods apart, and have plenty of storage space.
you will also need good quality tools too. a lathe, a jig saw, a circular saw,and lots of things i dont even know the name of.
oh - and keep a sharp eye out for woodworm. if that gets loose, you'll lose your stock.
it can be done though. our guy used to turn broken cupboards, wardrobes, and wall units into the most marvelous welsh dressers.
good luck. oh, and if you master the dovetail joint, you will earn my admiration. |
