I'm on the Quantocks, it's very nice; off the edge of Exmoor. Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe is the local one for the area and has a good reputation. I think it specialises in languages.

We're in north west Devon.
We moved from the outskirts of Cambridge 9 years ago and wouldn't change it for the world

ETA:-Okehampton College is in the top 10
My DD is very happy and is doing great

sounds like you need a holiday and a good look around locations you are thinking about, we are looking at moving to S Wales next year and have a week book there in June to look around, and will visit and stay as much as poss over the next 18 months before we take the final plunge

Thanks all

I'm sure if I offer to take Mrs C away for a week cruising round Somerset and Devon, she'll be quite happy with that.

We've stayed in Oakhampton a few years ago and it was lovely. I also spent summer holidays in Combe Raleigh/Honiton as a child and it's lovely round there as well.

Sound advice but remember there is a big difference in Holidaying somewhere and living there. When we relocated to Spain we spent as much time here as possible to make sure we chose the right area for our needs. Good luck in your search....

Devon is a large place, I think generally speaking it's cheaper towards the North than the South. Somewhat strangely since moving down we've met far more non-locals than locals so it doesn't seem that dissimilar to where we've moved from.

Wave when you're passing.

Definitely cheaper in the North of Devon than the south - and it's like a different country really - North of the Moor! different landscape etc. Still lovely tho.

it's quicker for us to get to Cardiff than North Devon!

House prices in South Devon are high - but it is a lovely place to live.

you have to decide what you want - near the coast? on the moors? , city village or out in the sticks? etc.

CIG, We'd like near the coast but not essential. A village would be great then we can throw ourselves into village life and we'd like to maybe rent an acre of land or so, so that we can do our thing.

Also we are not looking to buy at the moment but rent, just so we can get down there.

renting is prolly a good idea - you can get a feel for a place before committing

Agree with Gawber, make sure you spend plenty of time in the area before deciding, summer and winter. Renting first is also a bonus if you can afford to.

When we moved to Croatia it took us many visits at different times of the year to be sure. (Not that the weather makes that much difference in the UK...LOL)
