Hello its my first venture into this section. I've not scrolled down that far before!!
We have had a visitor in the garden. All very lovely! Ooh, Ah, Mummy look at the pretty deer!
We live right next to a national forest in which hunting is not permitted. not sure if it counts if they come into our land.
However, she is rather fond of my fruit bushes! all the strawberry plants have been topped and she has started on the raspberries.
so far i have instructed the boys to all pee along the boundary and we are taking big deer chasing hound there to leave big threatening smells all over.
any other suggestions...?

Isn't one on it's own a bit unusual?

i don't think it is alone. they usually graze the field along from us in 2's or 3's. but this one is a bit keen/ or stupid.

I will keep the dog down there today on a long wire; that should put them off I hope. But then again, 4 curious children didn't!
My raspberries were looking really promising. The strawberries never get past the path to the house with the kids checking every day but i was looking forward to freezing some of the raspberries for later in the year!

It is one of the only downsides to having a house so close to a protected forest. We may have to invest in more fencing

Dpack, I wasn't planning to use force! The rabbits are ours, the deer isn't. But I may mention it to my neighbours

I was going to say it probably has 50 chums in the woods...

However, it's not uncommon for some deer to be on their own, Roe for example. Do you know what deer it is?

Realistically, good deer fencing is the only way to stop deer grazing your plants.

We had deer regulary at our old place (one on its own is not uncommon, particularly if it's roe or muntjac). Cheap bean netting strun between long canes is a quick and cheap interim measure. Also, one year I was given a 'dragon' gourd, which I ended up planting with my beans as it needed to climb and I didn't have anywhere else to put it - the smell from the leaves seemed to stop the deer browsing on my beans, they ate the side without, but not where it was growing. Similarly with box hedging - they used to eat my roses until I planted box beneath. It's a smell thing, confuses them.
