Why I would never own a dog. I view them as farm animals that should live outside.

If that's how you feel then you don't deserve one.

You'll never have the pleasure of greeting the morning, every morning, with unbridled joy, with a dog to show you how.
You'll never laugh out loud, at your dog, when it knows your down in the dumps. And does a trick or two.
You'll not smile, a forced smile, when your dog comes home covered in fox shit, and is so pleased with itself.
You'll never get a little gash on your forehead that was a demonstration of an overly affectionate dog.
You'll never know, never see, the sparkle in a dogs eye, when its just dug something up, from the mud.
Or from under 3 feet of snow. As my blessed boy just did.
You'll never feel so blessed as to share your time on this planet with a dog that adores you.
You won't ever swim in the summer sea with a smiling dog, at your side, making sure your okay.

And to finish. You'll never be close to tears when you think how much you love your dog, and how much he loves you.

I'm his best friend and his God. He's my best friend and my God.

Three cheers for dogs

Aww...how true.
Today my dog woke me up with big hug resting her head on my face..or did she use it as pillow..and when I moved the kissing started..
Today she gave me pleasure of her company for hour or so while I was working outdoors....then she did disappearing act... ..that resulted me worrying over her for whole half'n hour ..eventually found her, and she just had little look over neighbours gardens..when I questioned her about her walked abouts, the look I got back was pure innocence.. like butter would not melt in her mouth.
Today she crash landed on front of fire and slept like baby...whimpering in her sleep...giving me a pleasure to cuddle next to her for few minutes and have little nap too.
Today she rewarded me with biggest possible wag of her tail when she got yummy food for dinner..and I'm sure there was big smile on her face too.
And now she sleeping next to my OH...while I'm starting my midnight 'shift' with spinning wheel..no doubt in a hour or so she will come and check me out that everything is ok...and we shall have cup of tea and bickie together..
Best thing is that I can experience most of that every day and have many laughs and smiles on my face just because the way she is..LOVE....

And you've reminded me why I miss my girl so very very much - despite 6 cats, a rabbit and 2 snakes the house is very quiet these days!

Dogs just don't fit my life so I don't own one. I will look after them in their own homes but not in mine.
Each to their own, I don't need a working dog as I've no work for it to do.
Likewise I have no children .
None of this is a character flaw I just have a life that doesn't have space for either.

Absolutely.

Right now my stinkers know instinctively the pressure I am under, and when it gets bad they sneak up on me and give me forced cuddles. They are empaths, they think I'm in control but actually it's them that help me stay in that role.

Nobody deserves a dog. Dogs do however deserve good owners. I cannot offer a suitable home to a dog so I do not own one.
I suggest your criticism is better aimed at the cruel neglectful and irresponsible owners.

Plenty of working dogs live happy and fulfilled lives and are never allowed in the house.
If your dogs job includes being a in home companion and living indoors then that's fine for you. Carry on loving and enjoying your dog and be happy.

I will carry on not owning a dog. My choice.

Wise words madcat. I agree with many of your sentiments. My family have 4 dogs. My missus has 2 toy poodles which are house dogs. They cuddle her on the sofa and watch telly etc.

My 4 working dogs live in kennels. They are never allowed in the house. Their lives are not any less fulfilled for it.

I don't have a problem with either view point, but choose to keep my dogs outside. What does aggravate me is when people treat dogs as mini humans or surrogate children. They are not, they are dogs and should be treated as such.

My Labrador and Husky x Alsation are squished together in one dog bed.
The Labrador is dreaming a woofy dream.
The Husky x Alsation is looking at her with a most bemused look on her face.

My stupid large dog has made numerous claw holes in the cover of my brand new 900 euro poly-tunnel. It appears that the bright small dog can burrow under the door when it rains but the stupid large dog (who has a mattress on a wooden base under the porch) would prefer to bat ineffectually at the cover with his razor sharp claws.

What I want to know is....
If I let dog blood congeal and dry in the sun until leathery, will it fill the holes in a plastic poly-tunnel cover?
Thanks
