I have the figs..I've mislaid the recipe😕
Had a quick goggle and the only one has tomatoes in it as well ..not what I remember.
Anyone got any ideas? While I continue hunting...always mean to organise my recipes but too busy doing stuff!

I have found it!....I used the one that turns up when you goggle it, but put diced apple in instead of tomatoes..
Recipe from the shop T..co.
Just started the last jar of the batch I made two years ago😎❤️

Fresh Fig and Date chutney. Tesco recipe
4tbsp olive oil 1kg onions sliced. chopped small is ok!
500g dates.chopped 1kg fresh figs.chopped 500g tomatoes, chopped. I used Bramley apples
500g brown sugar 550 vinegar I used cider vinegar.

Two pans.
In one, heat oil and fry onions for about 15 minutes, add dates, cook until sticky.
In the other, cook the rest together for 20 minutes.
Add the onion mix to the other, cook 30 minutes.
Pot into hot jars and cover.
Try to let it mature for at least a month!!

We have just eaten the last jar of the batch made two years ago.
Lovely

It is good if someone can't tolerate hot or spicy, and it isn't over vinegary either.
Good with sweet or savoury

thanks

i recon that would go well with bbq meat and vegan stuff, as mentioned not everyone likes spicy or hot

having decided that cooking on fire is on and the classic iceland frozen sausage with 3rd degree burns and chicken death legs are off for a big bbq

sauces and pickles might feature quite a bit especially at the cold cuts evening stage

I have just made another half batch, this time using the tomatoes suggested in the original recipe. I think I prefer it with apples.
When sorting the jars I saw on the lid of one , Fig, Balsamic and Date chutney...bought in lidl a while ago. Now that is an idea too....the next time figs are on offer...!
