Rich,

We live in France in the Dordogne and our land is chalk on clay. We find the morilles on the east facing slope of the valley on a bank with mainly oak and chestnut roots holding the very loose earth together.

I lived in Theydon Bois before come here and I've found them too in Epping forest, as you say Cab, later in the year than here because they do need a wee bit of heat - at least 13ï¿½c.

Naah, I've had them in February. They'll fruit more prolifically in the warm, but they appear surprisingly early. I guess it also depends on other conditions; my gut feeling is that if they're otherwise unhappy they need to be warmer.

I have a small clump of nettles in my garden at the moment and I am just waiting for a day when I can appreciate them in a bit of calm, I love potato soup so I think thats how i will use them.

There are loads of clean fresh nettles here too Pilsbury, with all this glorious rain we've been having. This is today's haul of Morels: HWH

Morels are one of the few things that I haven't found a photographic specimnen of since I got a decent camrea a few years back. So I'm REALLY jealous

Maybe thats what I did wrong with my nettle omlette the other day. I just threw the tops in the pan whole and cooked them down till soft, then put the egg mix in. It was the "furriness" that put me off a bit!

HWH - WOW - now THAT is a haul.. Its bank holiday weekend over here and I have told wifey to expect a forage session. I have a few woods in mind we are going to trawl over... I'll do my usual pick anything I find and try and ID later ... You lucky man being able to find so many.. Richy

Oooh Mochyn yes please. My village has a high ratio of dogs to nettles methinks. What would you like in return? and I'll of course pay pstgae. PM me and we'll get it sorted out. Next question is... do nettles freeze? And if so how? Do I need to blanch them first?

I'd cook them, either in soup or as per spinach or whatever, and then freeze the completed dish. Do you really want them? I'll pm you.
