You serve it the same way as you'd serve a chutney. If you're making cheese on toast you can spread a layer on the toast before putting the cheese on.

Chutneys involve sugar or another sweetener and vinegar and are 'softer' than pickles which should be crunchy. I love onion marmalade with almost anything savoury.

Do you or your family make them ? How about at the farm ?
Could be an interesting addition to the produce sold at the farm shop / stand - you do not have to use perfect veg or fruit.

Very tasty with a cheese or ham sandwich, or cold meats, or nut roast. Or even in place of ketchup with sausages or mashed potato.

ok just made this and it says cook until it looks like marmalade but mine has very little juice as such and its all onions is that right. only marmalade to me is more jelly like with less bits I guess this is more like a chutney in appearance. Is that right sorry just didnt want to jar it up and realise it has gone wrong. smells great mind you.

Sounds OK to me. It never really looks like marmalade, it just looks 'done'.

brill will start putting it in the jars just tasted it and its lovely I didnt have any bay leaves and popped cinnamon stick in for a bit of variety. ah well its worth a try. thanks for the idea. Have onions coming out of my ears with a bumper crop. now to use the garlic
