Do chickens need a roost in the ark and where is the best place to put it. would dowelling do and should nest boxes be kept seperate?

They will be much happier with a roost, but dowel will probably be too small, I use 2 inch square wood and round off the sharp corners.

i have read that the perch should be at least 5cm long if i remember correctly to stop them getting a problem with there feet.
