A rather soft hearted friend of mine is concerned that the buyer of his house is going to fill in the pond leaving the frogs homeless. is it possible to just take the frogs to the new house and introduce them to a new pond? i had a feeling frogs didn't liked to be moved. Thanks Dx

I don't know enough about the habits of frogs to comment on moving them. But, even if the adults don't like to be moved, if he timed it right, he could possibly take some spawn with him and at least carry on the population elsewhere. Judith (who once found a rather surprised looking frog in a bucket in her walled back yard, a long way from the nearest pond!)

There are various answers. I'm not sure if there would be any legal problems with moving them, but you could check with the council or a local amphibian society (they do exist).

How far would they be moved? If it's too far you need to be very careful as you may be moving diseases and doing more harm than good. The frogs should be able to run for it or your friend could ask if the new people are going to fill the pond in and he could fill it in after ensuring the frogs are not in the pond. Any other water animals and tadpoles could be moved to a local pond (neighbour?) if one exists.
