Did The Daily Mail miss a chance to blame immigrants?
They did. Don't worry, the Express had it covered.
I would tend not to blame celebrity chefs for this. The number of times I've found people looking speculatively at inedible or even poisonous species of mushroom they've picked the day after JO or HFW have been enthusing on the telly... I've lost count. There's a field near where I live covered, at the right time of year, with yellow stainers. And if that happens to coincide with some chef on telly going on about shrooming, I can just about guarantee they'll get picked. I've warned people under such circumstances that they're taking a huge risk maybe six or seven times now.
So I doubt whether the immediate impact of a TV chef is that great on the number of mushrooms picked. I suspect that poisonings may increase though.

You are beginning to interfere with Darwinian evolution. These people are eligible for an award. Desist.

I just found the idea of immigrants rushing here to forage all rather amusing...you know, that bigoted old chestnut - "they come here take our jobs, take our women, take our benefits and now they're eating our bloody mushrooms as well!"
Do people actually take those sort of articles seriously?

yep, a couple of years ago there were many immagrents in this area catching and killing swans, geese and catching and eating carp and pike in our local parks, many of them were newly arrived and were caught cooking up the catch on fires and mini BBQ's in the park, they just werent aware that all this loverly meat and protine was not free to be taken and eaten to save money or so they calimed, it has all pretty much stopped now and i put that down to there being a very large community here now so people are taken under the wing so to speak and show what is and isnt acceptable in our parks and rivers.
It wasnt a deliberate attempt to damage and distroy but just something they were used to doing at home apparently
Wait a minute........ what about....... MIDDLE CLASS IMMIGRANTS!
OH MY GOD!!!
DID THEY KILL DIANA!?
And then they put petrol prices up.
After my eye-watering experience at the pump this morning, I think petrol prices are something to get hysterical about and I'm looking for someone to blame.
Should I start with my immigrant wife?

IIRC No-one has ever been able to verify the swan story.
Here's one that I can verify if you like.
The University a few years back, as a result of an above-average cockup by the accommodation dept, had a couple of accommodation blocks spare, which were rented to the Home Office to be used by asylum-seekers from East Europe.
Within a fortnight, all the ornamental carp and waterfowl had mysteriously disappeared from the campus. Anyone asking what was to be done about this damage was accused of racism, which was easier for the office-wallahs than actually doing any work to put a stop to it.
There was also a lot of pike-removal from the local canal. It's stopped now as there are no longer any pike in there according to the local anglers.

Maybe you should write to the Daily Hystericals and let them know.

Can't see why not. Obviously its her fault. Or yours for helping her say in the UK; the Mail will probably hound you both out.
