I knew my shotgun licence was due to be renewed in October, but have had a stressful few weeks lately and hadn't remembered. I received a reminder by post yesterday - 14th October - that it runs out on the 17th, just after the weekend!
Luckily I pulled the stops out, downloaded the forms, dashed into town, had 4 photos taken, got one endorsed (in the bank), wrote the cheque, and just to be on the safe side, drove to the police HQ (30 miles) and delivered it.
I tremble to think what would have happened if it had got delayed in the post (either on its way to me, or from me to the Firearms Dept.) As they pointed out when I phoned up, if I was holding the guns at home after the 17th, it would be an illegal act and I would have been in serious trouble.
This is rightly so. I'm sure that Downsizers are more vigilant than I was, but apparently reminders are being phased out.

Walked in Walmart's, so a pump action 12 gauge winchester & a very nice stainless steel Marlin 22 semi auto, which buy the way is so accurate & after paying $12 for a background check, walked out the door with em & ammo too, good old usa lol. Also walked into a gun show & bought me a 9mm rugger with no background check.

Think I prefer the UK way - I'd rather not see guns for sale in Walmart or Asda as they are mainly known here - I think the gun laws in America are shockingly slack and extremely dangerous - guns should not be openly for sale to any idiot with a driving licence!

Two years ago a chap was selling shotguns at the vide grenier (boot sale) in the village........if you live in an area that has hunting as it's number 1 pastime, seems you can do what you like

There would be nothing wrong with buying a firearm or ammunition from a UK supermarket provided you had the suitable license. After all you can buy virtually anything else such as prescription drugs from many.

Checking my local paper back in Britain & so an husband that had knifed his wife to death, like people say its not the gun that killed the person but it does make it alot more easy.

Very hard to run riot with a batch of Viagra, tho.

I don't understand, or are you suggesting supermarkets shouldn't sell anything that could harm someone if irresponsibly used?

My point is if I can buy a box of shotgun shells from, say my local agri merchants, what's the difference buying them from a supermarket?

We live in the woods where every one else as guns, what would you do? The 22 is for small game & slaughtering, the 12 gauge is at the side of my bed for protection & it will take down large animals if needed when used with buck shot & the 9mm is in a place thats handy in case i need it but I can also take it out with me when I go fishing, again for protection. This is America think on, not uk.
Woman out with a 13 month baby in a buggy, not far from here in Georgia was approached by a 14 year old & asked her for money & cos she didn't give em any they shot her baby in the face, this happened a few days back.Lots of crazy people over here!

I do hope then that one of those guns you own is a handgun so you can shoot the crazy fourteen year old. Only way to solve it really.
